This app brings all 116,000 definitions of the Liddell-Scott-Jones Greek-English Lexicon to your iOS device, with blazing speed, smart searching algorithms, and a unique "reverse search" system that turns the LSJ into an English-Greek dictionary.

Features:
- Full offline dictionary reading, presenting auto-generated short definitions of every word backed up by the full LSJ entry.

- A powerful search mechanism lets you type in English, Greek or Beta Code to find words. The English search system uses heuristics to return highly accurate search results, even when accent and breathing vary.

- A unique "reverse search" system lets you query the English definition of each word. For example, searching for "rock" returns "πέτρα". This effectively turns the LSJ into an elementary English to Greek lexicon, backed up by all the copious referencing and detailed usages that the LSJ offers.

- Includes a guide to getting started with Beta Code, which allows you to search for precise orthography.

- Full support for iPad and iPhone - buy the app once and use it anywhere.

- Did we mention that it was really, really fast? At last you can search the entire LSJ in a fraction of a second!

Pros and cons of Ancient Greek Dictionary app for iPhone and iPad

Ancient Greek Dictionary app good for

Good and user-friendly and definitely better than Lexiphanes for LSJ. Two things that would make this app perfect are a proper final sigma (ς instead of σ) and an integrated Authenrieth.
I just started using this app, but so far it looks very good. Its only competitor is Lexiphanes, and it is superior to that app in a number of ways. It is much cheaper. It has a screen resolution for the ipad, while Lexiphanes has one resolution (for the iphone) and the ipad version is just blown up larger. Also, this app will change orientation if you turn the ipad on its side or upside down, whereas Lexiphanes maintains the same orientation all the time, which makes it hard to attach a charging cord to the ipad while using Lexiphanes, depending on your stand. The reverse lookup is nice, but you have to remember that it only searches the LSJ entry. So if you want to searching for all Greek words for knowledge, for example, you will have to search for know, acquaintance, etc., as the word knowledge might not turn up in every entry for knowing words. The only criticism I have is that it shows terminal sigmas as normal mid-word sigmas. This is not a huge problem, but it is untidy, and it would be nice if the depeloper could fix it. But overall, a very good, functional and clean app.
Thank you for this app. I am a classicist and cant find a decent online Ancient Greek Dictionary. This app is incredibly fast and accurate for I own a copy of the L&S lexicon and see the similarities. προς θεοί this makes translating so much faster!
This electronic version of the well-known LSJ dictionary is really useful for Ancient Greek student or a Classics scholar. Works fine, no need in taking a huge book with you or in purchasing all-time web connection. There two cons otherwise. First, the keyboard confuses the C and X buttons. Second, the colored panel with advertising doesnt look very professional. Anyway, the application Is very useful.

Some bad moments

This is an easy-to-use version of the definitive Greek lexicon. Not feature rich, but well worth the cost.
Super fast searching. Greek LSJ entries. All that I need instead of carrying a dictionary around! LSJ for a buck, cant really say no.
I havent had a Lexicon this comprehensive, convenient or cheap since college (quite a long time ago). THANKS!
The search of the LSJ lexicon is quick and effective. The reverse search is, as the documentation says, rudimentary. A search for "just" or "justice" wont return any DIKH-words, for example, but plenty of words that mean "just" in the sense of "merely". The absence of final-sigmas is annoying, even though the screenshot on iTunes gave ample warning of that oddity. A good version #1 with room to improve.
I have the same concerns that another reviewer has expressed. The reverse search function is a bit inaccurate. How any form of DIKAIOS doesnt come up for "just" is totally beyond me. This function needs to be seriously refined. And my only other complaint is that the terminal sigmas need to be lunate. Very disappointing that the sigmas appear this way. If these two things are refined then this will be a fantastic app, but until then it will remain decidedly average for me.
Overall very good. But theres a confusing duplication: how is this app different from the Ancient Greek app, sold by the same author? Also, all sigmas are the medial form. PLEASE FIX THE FINAL SIGMAS!
